Constant Nagging Can Wear the Most Hardened Family Support System Down

Many people would probably state that they are a strong support system for their family. When push comes to shove, though, even the most determined individuals can reach their limit. Everyone has limits, including the family caregiver who doesn’t work a full-time job, doesn’t have children to raise, and has no other responsibilities.

Caregiver Stress in Thornhill Canada: Constant Nagging

Many people, though, have numerous other responsibilities.

Few people live in the kind of vacuum where they have nothing to do all day, at least not things that absolutely must be done. The vast majority of Americans are constantly busy. They have responsibilities from the moment they wake up until the time they go to bed and often have to push their bedtime back 30 minutes, an hour, or even longer day after day after day.

These men and women, taking care of an aging parent or other family member, can be stressed.

Caregiver stress can overwhelm even the strongest individual. It starts out generally slow, mild, and even unnoticed, but before long concerns, worries, and frustrations will constantly linger in that caregiver’s mind. He or she might have difficulty sleeping at night, may not know what can be done, and wish there was a better solution.

Then, if the senior relying on them constantly nags, it can make matters worse.

Nagging doesn’t have to be picking on somebody. It can be the constant calls. The call first thing in the morning asking where the measuring cup is because the senior is trying to make breakfast. It could be the call while the caregiver is on their way to work saying the senior ran out of laundry detergent, even though he or she shouldn’t be trying to get down to the basement to do laundry because of their physical limitations.

The calls never stop. The worries about seniors and safety never end. Even when that family caregiver is trying to do the right thing and discourage certain activities, the nagging will continue. The senior doesn’t want to give up his or her rights or independence, but when they are being told what to do and what to avoid, it can feel just like that, so they may retaliate with this constant nagging as a passive-aggressive way to try and get them to back off, at least a little while, and still being there when the senior needs their support.

In these types of situations, talking about home care support services can be a valuable asset. An experienced home care aide can help seniors and their family get the right support, stay positive, and help mend relationships that could be strained in this type of situation.
