Home Care for Seniors in Bellevue, WA
Choosing a home care provider for your aging parent isn’t always easy. It is normal for children of aging parents to worry about the welfare of their parents, and to try to ensure that they get the best home care possible. For many adult children, arranging care for their aging parent is a new experience for them and they might not know exactly where to start. But, by doing some research and communicating with the aging parent about what their needs are, adult children can narrow down their options and make an informed choice when it comes to home care. One essential thing to do before deciding on a home care agency is to ask questions. Here are five examples of good questions to ask a home care agency before deciding to use their services:
1. How long have you been in business?
It is important to choose a home care agency with a great reputation. A home care agency that is well established and has been in business for a long period of time will usually be reputable. You can also ask them to see testimonials from previous clients, if you want to get a better idea of their quality.
2. How do you ensure proper care?
The home care agency will be in charge of hiring the home care aides that will actually be working directly with your aging parent. It is important to know how these home care aides will be supervised and how their performance will be evaluated to ensure consistent, quality care.
3. Will my parent always have the same aide?
If consistency is important to you, it is important to ask if the same home care aide will be in charge of your parent’s care every day or if staff may change from week to week.
4. Will I be involved in the care plan?
You will want to make sure that the home care agency will involve you in any plan they set in place for the care of your parent. It is also a good idea to ask if your parent’s doctor will also be involved.
5. How are the home care aides trained?
It is important to make sure that the home care aides that will be working directly with you parent have up to date CPR and First Aid training. It is also important that they have experience and other relevant training making them qualified for the job.
