How Do You Know When It’s Time for Live-In Care for Your Aging Loved One?

Live-In Care For Seniors in Palm Beach CA

Live-In Care For SeniorsBrianna and her sister Megan had been concerned about their mother for quite some time. It had been a few years since their father had passed away and ever since the funeral, they had been trying to convince their mother that it was time to sell the house and look for something smaller, something easier for her to maintain. However, their mother wouldn’t listen; she simply couldn’t part with a home that she had shared with their father for most of their married life.

In recent months, though, Brianna noticed that her mother was having trouble tending to her own care. She would find her mother on the floor once in a while, having slipped getting out of bed and unable to stand up. She also noticed that she was eating more canned goods, mostly because she couldn’t prepare some of the meals that she had been famous for within the family. Brianna knew that something had to change, but she wasn’t sure what. Her mother was still adamant about remaining in the comfort of her home. That’s when Megan mentioned live-in care for seniors.

Brianna had always thought about having some form of home care since their mother wanted to remain in her home, but she didn’t think that it was affordable. Megan apparently had been doing some research into it and found that hiring a live in caregiver was more affordable that they would have thought previously.

The question now wasn’t about the cost, but about the options that would help ensure that their mother was safe and healthy within the comfort of her own home. They sat down, Brianna and Megan, and went over the potential options. First, they could try and convince their mother that it was time to move, but both of them knew that she wouldn’t do it. She had stayed this long; she wasn’t about to leave now. She felt closer to their father in this house, so that wasn’t an option.

They considered having a home care provider come in for a few hours a day, but they knew that their mother needed care throughout the day, not just someone to check on her for a couple of hours.

That’s when they decided that it was time for 24 hour home care.

In 2000, 10 million Americans required long-term care, with 65% of them being seniors over the age of 65, according to Caregiver.org. When your loved one requires more in-depth or detailed care, and he or she requires it around the clock, and they want to remain where they are, that’s when you know it’s time to consider live in care for seniors.
