Even the Young Elder Care Provider Needs Rest

Caregiver Stress in Charlotte, NC – No Matter Your Age, Caregivers Require Rest and Rejuvination

Mornings were always difficult for Catherine who was raising three children on her own and working a full-time job as well as a part-time job just to make ends meet. At 31 years of age, she was dealing with many issues, and one she hadn’t expected to worry about so soon was taking care of her mother.

Her mother had been diagnosed with cancer when she was 71. Catherine was an only child, having been quite the surprise to her parents later in life. She wanted to do whatever she could for her mother, and that meant stepping up to provide elder care while she was battling this potentially terminal disease.

Because she was young and in incredibly good shape, Catherine assumed she was going to be able to handle the burdens of elder care without an issue. She didn’t have any experience providing home care for the elderly, but went online to look up information about it. She learned about certain strategies that could be effective in helping her mother, she learned what to expect with regard to chemotherapy and radiation treatment, and she became active with certain discussion groups of other family caregivers across the country.

She read in one of the blogs that she should get the right level of exercise she needed every day. Despite her busy schedule, she woke up at 5 o’clock in the morning instead of six, went to the gym once the kids were ready and off to school, and then stopped by her mother’s house in the morning if she needed something before heading to work. If she couldn’t get to the gym, she would make time for it in the evening before heading home.

Before long Catherine began to feel rundown, tired, and completely worn out. She felt as old as her mother did and the forty-year difference didn’t seem to matter.

No matter what age a caregiver is, providing elder care for somebody when you have numerous other responsibilities, such as raising children or jobs, can create a tremendous amount of stress and anxiety. It can completely wear you out.

That’s why it’s so important to discuss the option of hiring professional home care for the elderly for the person who needs it.

Catherine finally decided to talk to her mother about what she was feeling and they both agreed that hiring a professional elder care provider was the right option at this time.

Caring for others has always been a passion for the owner. She joined the healthcare field while still in high school believing that every health provider had the same intentions at heart. While working as a nurse assistant and a Registered Nurse, Gloria quickly realized that those whom needed us most were being neglected and not receiving the best quality of care they deserved.

Knowing in her heart that families deserved better, she started Caring At Heart in 2008 with two key goals in mind: To provide clients and their families with an experience that was personable, easy, and reassuring and to create a working environment that employees were excited and proud to be a part of.
