Caregiver Stress Tips Galloway NJ
How potentially damaging is caregiver stress? In truth, it can be devastating. It all depends on the individual, how long they’ve been dealing with this level of stress and anxiety, how much care and support they offer to this family member, and much more.
If you’re not quite sure whether you’re dealing with caregiver stress or something else, here are a few tips that may just help you identify the situation and, if you notice it’s stress related for you, you might want to consider home care support services to at least help out for a while.
Tip #1: Are you anxious?
Maybe you’re normally an anxious or nervous person. Or perhaps you are a carefree, take it as you go kind of individual. If you’re feeling anxious or more anxiety lately than you normally feel, it’s probably the result of your support and care of the elderly family member.
Tip #2: Are you losing focus?
If you’re having difficulty staying focused on certain tasks throughout the day, it could be the result of a lack of sleep, stress from work, or caregiver stress. You need to step back and take an honest assessment of this particular situation.
With regard to stress at work, your health, or relationships, do you have a tendency to lose focus? If not, if you’ve gone through a process of elimination and that leaves caregiver stress as a more likely culprit.
Tip #3: Are you running late constantly?
A lot of people have a tendency to run late no matter where they go. However, if you’re the type of person who wants to be on time but can’t seem to get out the door and is constantly arriving at work, to this elderly family member’s house, or anywhere else late, it might be because you have taken on too much and have too little time to get everything done throughout the day.
Tip #4: Are you losing patience easily?
Are you losing your patience? Are you short tempered? Is this not typical of you? Then you need to seriously accept that this is probably the result of the stress you feel as a family caregiver.
Tip #5: Are you getting sick more often?
If you have a tendency to get sick frequently lately, and you’re normally a healthy person, stress is often the culprit. Stress can affect you physically, emotionally, and mentally.
What can you do about it?
Consider hiring a home care aide to at least alleviate some of the pressure from your life. You can hire somebody for just two hours a day once or twice a week to start, as long as you hire through an agency.
